Yazzy Youth offer "A Salute to Women of Jazz"

Students and faculty of Theatre of the Performing Arts of Shreveport invites the public to join them for the 11th annual Yazzy Youth Celebrating Jazz Concert, 7 p.m., Friday, April 26, at The Riverview Theatre, 600 Clyde Fant Parkway, in downtown Shreveport.

This year’s theme is “A Salute to Women of Jazz.”  Guest artists include Pamela Williams, Jazz “Saxtress”, from Cleveland, Ohio and Michael Ward, jazz violinist from New Orleans. Shreveport’s own jazz musician Dorsey Summerfield, Jr. also serves as Yazzy project coordinator.

New downtown Shreveport mural dedication set for April 18

The Shreveport-Bossier Convention and Tourist Bureau and Shreveport Regional Arts Council will dedicate Shreveport-Bossier’s newest public mural during a 10 a.m. press conference and dedication ceremony on Thursday, April 18 at 629 Spring Street in downtown Shreveport.

The mural titled “A Call to Action,” is a 75’ x 20’, full-wall acrylic mural by artist Ali Bahler. Bahler, along with Lighting Artist Logan McDaniel, will be on-hand and available for comment during the April 18 dedication.

Centenary College Choir and First UMC Choir to perform Mozart Mass

The Centenary College Choir and the First United Methodist Church Chamber Choir will join to present Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Grand Mass in C Minor. The performance will take place at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 14, in the sanctuary of First United Methodist Church of Shreveport. The performance is free and open to the public.

The performance will be under the direction of Dr. David Hobson, choral director of the Centenary College Choir and the First United Methodist Church Chamber Choir.

Holiday in Dixie to host first BBQ cook-off

The Holiday in Dixie Ambassadors Club will host the inaugural Holiday in Dixie BBQ Cook-Off from 3 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, April 20 in the riverfront area of Festival Plaza in downtown Shreveport.

Admission is $10 and includes three BBQ sample tickets. Additional sample tickets may be purchased for $1. Proceeds raised at the event will benefit the Holiday in Dixie Senior Essay Scholarship for Caddo and Bossier Parish students.
